Spoon feeding

Gabe’s been trying to feed himself with a spoon for a while now. I always hand him the spoon after I’m done feeding him, and he mimics the motions of feeding himself, but he’s always full at that point, and pretty much just ends up painting with whatever is left in his bowl or on his plate.

Today, I decided to let him give it a whirl before he’d had too much to eat. He did pretty well.

Success!

He even shared a little with Dad.

He did take maybe a half dozen bites or so all by himself. Eventually… He started painting his highchair tray with mashed potatoes… But that’s cool. I encourage his artistic tendencies.

Have you tried getting him those spoon/fork sets made for toddler hands? Kelsey had a hard time holding the “baby spoon”, but the wider-handled spoons/forks made for toddlers were easier for her to hold. Granted, she still dumped her spoonfull half the time, and just picked it up with her fingers, but that MIGHT have been for the reaction it got!
