Recipe Save – Apple Pie

  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • 2 cups Water
  • 6 Tart Peeled Apples*
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Cider Vinegar
  • Butter
  • 1 Egg white


  1. Slice Apples
    1. Add lemon juice and water to a large bowl.
    2. Peel and slice your apples, and place in bowl of lemon water. This will prevent the first apples cut from turning brown.
  2. Mix Filling
    1. In a large bowl combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt and vinegar
    2. Once finished the ingredients should look like a brown crumbly and powdery mixture
    3.  Drain the water off the apples and mix them with the spices and set aside.
    4. Preheat the ovent to 400 degrees.
  3. Prepare Crust
    1. You may use this recipe: or premade crust.
    2. Wait to roll the crust for the top of the pie until you are actually you complete the mixture below and are ready to top the pie.
  4. Build the Pie
    1. Dump all of the apple mixture into the pie plate on top of the lower crust.
    2.  Place about 4 chunks of butter on top of the apple filling. This will give the filling rich flavor.
    3. Cut long strips of tinfoil and place them around the edge of the pie. This will prevent the crust’s edge from burning while it bakes
  5. Baking the Pie
    1. Place a cookie sheet covered in tinfoil on the lowest oven rack to prevent any overflow from reaching the bottom of the oven — easy cleanup!
    2. Bake the pie for 40-50 minutes at 400 degrees.
    3. Remove pie from the oven, remove the foil and brush a small portion of egg white on the top for a golden glossy effect.
    4. Cook for an additional 10 minutes.
    5. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 1-2 hours to ensure that the apples thicken and the pie isn’t to watery.

* I typically use 3 granny smith and 3 honeycrisp, mutsu or pink lady apples.
