Recipe Save: Pie Crust


Origin:  Online and then modified in my kitchen
Total Preparation Time: 45 minutes
Actual Cooking Time: varies
Number of Servings: 2 single crusts or 1 double crust


  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 10 tablespoons softened butter
  • 11 tablespoons cold lard
  • 4 to 6 tablespoons ice water

Preparation Instructions

  1. Mix flour, salt and sugar with Kitchen Aid mixer.
  2. Cut in butter a tablespoon at a time.  
  3. Add cold lard and continue cutting in until flour is pale yellow and resembles coarse cornmeal with butter bits no bigger than small peas. 
  4. Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of ice water over mixture.
  5. With a fork, fluff to mix thoroughly.
  6. Squeeze a handful of dough — if it doesn’t stick together, add remaining water, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  7. Divide dough into two balls and then flatten into 6-inch discs.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before rolling.
  9. Fill with your favorite pie filling recipe.
